For the second straight year Phil Mickelson is ranked second
in Sports Illustrated’s annual Fortunate 50 ranking of the top-earning American
athletes, this time with $61,660,757.
Mickelson’s salary was $9,660,757 on the strength of three
victories and seven top-10 finishes in 18 events last year plus a $3 million
FedEx Cup bonus for finishing second in that year-long event. He also earned $52 million for his partnerships
with Barclays, Callaway Golf, ExxonMobil, KPMG and Rolex and fees for his golf
course design projects in China.
While his salary was higher than just two of the other 49
athletes on the list, his endorsements were higher than all but two others
earned overall.
